I wonder how many people admit to being or feeling invisible or being lonely in a crowded room. For many of us it’s an everyday occurrence INVISIBLE sits there quietly waiting to join in conversations and if they do they either get ignored or the subject matter changes and the joining interest that is stored for this particular moment has gone as quick as a puff of smoke. How many times have you heard the saying Johnnie No mate’s? The odd, quirky, shy or even strange person in the corner.
Yet when the poplars are suddenly alone in a room with just invisible strange things happens and the invisibility cloak drops and they become a person again for two, five or even ten minutes they are chosen to be a necessary part of the speakers’ day opinions views and moans and groans become a topic. Next, in a blink of an eye as quick as its starts the, door opens, to another more interesting subject and with this Invisible has slipped off back to the land of nobody’s.
Another time the lunch room is buzzing invisible walks in one side are the popular everyone has crammed on to every seat just so they don’t miss anything. On the other side a whole row of empty chairs. Invisible has a choice try to squeeze a bum on to a seat next to the popular topic risk are being told someone else’s chair sitting down and dropping the yogurt down the top or even spilling soup all over the floor with everyone thinking OMG. The choice are going to sit the other side hoping someone will say you ok or I make some room. No, that rarely happens. Invisible sits on the opposite side the door opens one, two three more people enter and then they think good, not going to be alone. Silly of course they are! Then invisible goes for coffee of course they politely moves out of the way gets the milk out offer it to someone else to turn their backs to find not only the milk gone the water used up but more often the drink just made gone. What response? Can invisible do the event is no longer current the time and energy it would take to complain would only fall on the deaf ears of a noisy crowed room invisible sighs picks up its lunch and quietly retreats.
Invisibles are often very funny people they have to have a good temper and a positive outlook.
They are kind honest and genuine. They promote to themselves a positive mind set because deep down all they really want to do is fit in and have real friends.(Don’t mistake someone being friendly with friendship) Which in one conversation they were told or perhaps even over heard. The invisibles kind heart sees the good in most things this is what keeps them going. Christmas season is particularly difficult for these people often finding themselves on ends of tables. That is if they have even been really invited in the first place trying to find a lift and being told sorry so and so has already said they wanted it. End up going home early because no matter how they have tried to join in the fake laughter hurts their ears and they have to decide to fade into the night and risk being spoken about the next day. Finally to walk in the next morning and say Good morning with a bright sunny smile. Occasionally a morning comes grudgingly back and invisible starts the day.
This Christmas, No this day just give a thought to all those invisibles you see every day they are really nice pleasant honest people find a five minutes to perhaps include them. Even if you don’t mean it they won’t hold it against you because without them the world would be a pretty miserable place.
